Bühnenwerke | Stage Works | Œuvres scèniques Rollenbilder aus der Oper » Die Zauberflöte«, 1793 Mit dem Libretto zur Zauberflöte, an dessen letzter Fassung Mozart einen nicht unwesentlichen Anteil hatte, bediente Schikaneder das Genre der Zauberoper. Mit einem hohen Grad an Komik, phantastisch-exotischen Momenten und den oft spektakulären Bühneneffekten entsprach dieses Libretto ganz den Vorlieben des Wiener Publikums. Allerdings sorgten die freimaurerisch-humanistischen Ideale, die Mozarts Oper ebenfalls transportiert, für eine deutliche Überhöhung des Genres, was zu der anfangs zurückhaltenden Aufnahme des Werkes führte. Diese machte jedoch schon bald einem stetig wachsenden Erfolg Platz. Allein im Oktober 1791 fanden über 20, bis Anfang 1801 mehr als 200 Aufführungen einzig im Theater auf der Wieden statt. Seither zählt die Zauberflöte zu den populärsten Opern von Mozart. Das NMA-Aufführungsmaterial liegt nun in neuem, optimiertem Stichbild vor. Mozart was substantially involved in the final version of the libretto to The Magic Flute. Here Schikaneder turned to the genre of magic opera, adding a large amount of comedy, elements of fantasy and exoticism, and often spectacular stage effects to satisfy the tastes of Viennese audiences. Yet Mozart’s opera also projects the humanistic ideals of Freemasonry, greatly elevating the genre and improving the initially subdued reception given to the work itself. Soon the opera grew steadily more successful, with more than 20 performances taking place in October 1791 alone and more than 200 given in the Theater auf der Wieden by the beginning of 1801. Since then The Magic Flute has been one of Mozart’s most popular operas. Now the NMA performance material is being reissued with a polished new engraving. Schikaneder contribua largement au genre de l’opéra féérique avec son livret pour La Flûte enchantée, au quel Mozart participa substantiellement pour en établir la version définitive. Avec de grands effets comiques, des passages fantastiques et exotiques, et une machinerie scénique souvent spectaculaire, il correspondait bien à la prédilection du public viennois. Toutefois, les allusions aux idéaux humanistes et franc-maçons également présents dans l’opéra de Mozart, contribuent à une sublimation de ce genre, ce qui explique l’accueil tout d’abord retenu que connut cette œuvre. Mais le succès grandit rapidement. Au cours du seul mois d’octobre 1791, il y eut plus de 20 représentations, et plus de 200 avant le début de l’année 1801, uniquement au Theater auf der Wieden. Depuis lors, La Flûte enchantée compte parmi les œuvres les plus populaires de Mozart. Le matériel d’orchestre de la NMA est publié aujourd’hui dans une nouvelle typographie améliorée. 39
