EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The development of global warming due to
increasing concentrations of Greenhouse Gases (GHG)
emissions have an impact on climate change that will
ultimately change the world climate patterns. This
conditions could endanger the lives and ecosystems has
led convening of the United National Framework
Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), to launch
the Kyoto protocol in 1997.
Indonesia as a developing country binding to
Kyoto protocol ratification, and issued the Regulation no.
17/2004 as a commitment to reduce CO2 emissions by
26% with its own funding and 41% through the
assistance of international donors. Based on this policy,
the Ministry of Industry in cooperation with Indonesian
Climate Change Trust Fund (ICCTF) prepare the
Guidelines of Technology Mapping for Pulp and Paper
Industry.
Among the sources of GHG emissions in
Indonesia, industrial sector is ranked 4
v
th , including pulp
and paper industries, cement, steel, textile,
petrochemical, food-beverage and ceramics and glass.
The development of technology and production capacity
in pulp and paper industries, provide the opportunities for
energy savings and reduce GHG emissions all at once
significantly.
The book "Guide to Technology Mapping for Pulp
and Paper Industries" consist the following:
- Overview of pulp and paper making process and
environmental management
- Pulping technology which is energy efficient and low
carbon emissions.
