alternative. Another advantage is the low energy required,
even to produce biogas which can be exploited. However, if
this technology not managed properly, it caused problems
in emission. Biogas is formed from the biodegradation by
microbes as CO2 and CH4 gas can be released into the
atmosphere contributes to the increase of greenhouse
gases (GHG) emission and affect climate change.
2.3.2 Solid Waste Management
Solid waste produced in PPI is large enough and
type and characteristics vary, depending on the unit
processes where the waste is formed. Solid waste is
divided into organic waste that can be either the remnants
of the raw material or sludge from wastewater treatment
plants (WWTP), and inorganic waste that can be either ash
combustion products (fly ash) from the unit power plant and
incinerator units. Of the several types of solid wastes,
WWTP sludge is the most problematic in terms of handling.
Through utilization of waste management
technology solution that is recommended to do by the
industry, because it is an alternative to solving
environmental problems and also can provide added value
to the industry. Solid waste is mainly organic waste, has
favorable prospects to be exploited because of the
potential to produce energy. Other potential of solid waste
is to be made compost to improve soil fertility and crop
productivity.
There are several alternative waste management
technologies that can be done in the PPI, such as landfill,
incineration, composting, and anaerobic digestion, which
their selection reviewed from various aspects of technical,
environmental and economic. Because solid waste of PPI
is carbon sources, then in process management activities
