ii. b. Anaerobic System
Anaerobic process is the process of
biodegradation of organic compounds into methane
(CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) by anaerobic bacteria.
This process has been developed for pulping waste
water treatment that have complex organic matter, such
as compounds of lignin, tannins and other extractive
substances, and also in paper mill waste water
recycling system of high water.
The process of decomposition of complex organic
compounds into biogas by bacterial activity that live in
anaerobic environment which is basically done by two
dominant bacterial groups, namely:
Bacteria acidogenic, consisting of an organic acidforming
bacteria, butyric and propionic, and acetic
acid by bacteria acetogenic.
Bacteria methanogenic, composed of bacteria that
converts acetophilic acetic acid into methane (CH4),
and bacteria that can alter hidrogenophilic H2 and
CO2 into CH4.
The effectiveness of wastewater treatment with
anaerobic system influenced by several factors, such
as temperature, pH, alkalinity and nutrients with
optimum conditions as follows:
Temperature: 35 ° - 37 ° C (mesophilic),
: 45 oC - 55 oC (thermophilic)
Alkalinity: 1000 - 5000 mg / l CaCO3
Nutrition: COD: N: P = 350: 5: 1
PH: acidification 6.5
