CHAPTER VI CLOSING REMARKS Indonesia ratified the Kyoto Protocol and participate through regulation No. 17/ 2004 which committed to reduce CO2 emission of potentially Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission. Indonesia's GHG reduction target set at 26% with its own funding and 41% through the assistance of international donors. Following up on this commitment, the Ministry of Industry in cooperation with Indonesian Climate Change Trust Fund (ICCTF) formulates guidelines for technology mapping in the pulp and paper industry. One of the source emitters in Indonesia is industrial sector, was ranked 4th, which including pulp and paper industry because it includes high energy consuming industries. The development of technology and high production capacity in the pulp and paper industry can provide opportunities for energy savings and reduce emission significantly all at once. Overall energy savings in the pulp and paper industry can be done with energy conservation at each unit process of cooking systems, pulp bleaching, chemical recovery, stock preparation, paper machines, and power plant and waste management. Implementation of environmentally friendly technology in the manufacture of pulp and paper basically also do energy saving at the same time can increase production efficiency. Some benefits which can be obtained from the implementation of environmentally friendly technologies that save energy, conserve materials, save water, reduce air emission, cut costs, reduce pollution load. Some processes that can save energy and reduce emission in the pulp industry, among others: handling of wood raw material, chipping, wood chip screening modification delignification technology continues on cooking system washing technology applications using both the displacement method and bleaching brown stock optimizing the performance of chemical recovery (evaporators, recovery boilers, lime kilns) optimize the performance of power system boiler (biomass fuels or coal) Implementation of energy saving in the paper industry can be done mainly on paper drying units in the following way: control of drying process control of dew point optimization of dewatering in the forming and pressing reduction blow through energy loss reduction of air consumption optimization pocket ventilation temperature residual heat recovery the use of shoe (extended nip) press optimization of paper machine vacuum system The use of advanced technologies such as gap forming; water impingement drying Technology for environmental management is an activity of processing and utilization of waste in the form of liquid, solid or gas.
