Pulp and paper industries in some countries, have made sludge waste management with how to use it as compost with a good quality (Carter, 1983). Some pulp and paper industry in Indonesia has also examined the utilization of sludge waste as compost and test try to plant. The study indicates that the sludge compost application at a dose of 10 tons / ha to increase the productivity of various crops and soil quality significantly. However, continuous application is only done by an industry that has timber estate. 5.3 Gas Emission Management 5.3.1 Sources and Characteristics The biggest source of emission in the pulp and paper industry is the unit that uses chemical processes such as pulping unit, chemicals recovery units, pulp bleaching units and paper manufacturing. Pulping process will produce gas polluters in the form of sulfur compounds, carbon compounds and nitrogen compounds, while emission from the unit CRP, especially in the form of particulates such as Na2SO4, Na2CO3, and sulfur gases that cause odor source.
