Chemical pulping process and semi-chemical
produces a number of emission including volatile organic
such as methanol, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and methyl
ethyl ketone and reduced sulfur gases. Emission of
reduced sulfur-containing gases (H2S, methyl mercaptan,
and dimethyl disulfide), cause the smell is very disturbing,
although in low concentrations. Overall, the compounds are
expressed as total reduced sulfur compounds (TRS) that is
released from various sources in the Kraft chemical pulping
process and semi-chemical. Emission of gases that are
emitted from the Kraft pulping process can cause air
pollution. Before the gas emission released into the
environment must be controlled in advance so as not to
cross the line emission standard. Basically gas emission
control is through cleaning and particulate emission by
separating the pollutant gas. Generally, in addition gas
emission control aims to reduce the impact of pollution on
local air quality, as well as to minimize the loss of
chemicals.
5.3.2 Technology of Management Particulate Emission and
Gas
Management of particulate and gas emission in the
pulp and paper industry conducted by the separation of
particulate and gas emission or the collection and
combustion gases are not condensed (Non-Condensable
Gases) for concentrations do not exceed certain limits
which can effected health. Basically, the management of
waste gases can be done with control of the process itself,
through the proper operation of all process equipment in
order to minimize the waste gas that is formed from each
unit process.
