da destra, Paolo d’Amico Presidente Confitarma
e Valeria Novella
è sempre più specializzato
ed avanzato. Le nuove
tecnologie, l’innovazione,
la possibilità di conoscere
luoghi e genti diverse, dovrebbero
riportare i ragazzi
e le ragazze a navigare.
La Confederazione sostiene
percorsi formativi, ad
esempio l’Accademia della
Marina Mercantile, che ha
una sede a Genova e ne ha
aperto recentemente una
seconda a Torre del Greco.
Oltre all’Accademia è nato il
Polo nazionale dei Mestieri
del Mare, Formare, che
si occupa di addestrare gli
addetti, dagli elettricisti, agli
chef.
Mi auguro che un numero
sempre maggiore di giovani
riscopra i mestieri del mare.
E’ un mondo ricco di opportunità
e di soddisfazioni.
Ci auguriamo di poter dare
un proficuo contributo alla
diffusione della cultura del
mare.
Quali sono i prossimi
programmi dei Giovani
Credo che sia una nostra
precisa responsabilità sostenere
lo sviluppo del Paese
soprattutto in tempi di
crisi, facendo della competitività
della flotta italiana,
un punto di forza. Il nostro
programma si fonda su tre
temi principali: l’attenzione
all’ambiente, all’innovazione
ed alla qualità, elementi
chiave nella green economy,
efficace stimolo per
incrementare lo sviluppo
sostenibile nel settore dei
trasporti marittimi.
New ideas from the new president
of Young Ship Owners
At 31 Valeria Novella has spent almost one third of
her life in the long standing family company specialised
in bunkering shipping in Genoa and at Augusta
in Sicily. Originally using wherries Novella now has
bunker tankers chartered to the major international
oil companies.
Valeria are you the first woman to hold such a high
office at Confitarma
Yes I accepted to be become president of the
“Young Owners” with great enthusiasm. One thinks
of shipping as a man’s world but that is no longer
true. Today women are not only winning executive
roles but also high offices as for example Ms Marcegaglia
at Confindustria or Ms Guidi at “Young Industrialists”.
What sort of policies do you intend to follow after
five years of Giuseppe Rizzo
Working intensely with Giuseppe was a splendid
experience both in terms of human relationships and
of learning. We travelled abroad, built new relationships
and demonstrated to be a strong tightly knit
squad. Thanks to these experiences we can face up
to the challenge of the future. I intend to continue in
the same manner consolidation the role of “Young
Owners” both inside and outside Confitarma.
How would you describe the pros and cons of the
family tradition of ship-owning
We have learnt a lot from our fathers, without them
we would be unable to cover the positions with which
we have been entrusted. It is easier for us to start
work but we still have to sail. There have been many
changes and we young people can bring new ideas
and knowledge to businesses and associations. Experience
gained outside our companies is extremely
important for example abroad or with other companies
and enables us to see shipping from different
points of view.
Are there many young people at sea today
No and I am sorry about that. The sea is no longer
seen as offering a tempting future which is a pity.
Staying away from home for long periods of time is
a deterrent. Nevertheless careers at sea offer many
opportunities with work which is ever more specialised
using up to date technology. New technology,
innovation and the chance to see different places and
peoples should bring young people of both sexes
back to the sea.
Confitarma supports training courses for example
at the Mercantile Marine Academy in Genoa with a
second just opened at Torre del Greco. In addition to
the Academy a national Pole for Maritime Job Training
has starter up to train staff such as electricians
and chefs. It is my hope that an increasing number of
young people rediscover careers at sea. It is a world
rich with opportunity and satisfaction. We hope to
make a real contribution to spreading the culture of
the sea
What do the “Young Owners” have in their Future
Programme
I believe it is our precise responsibility to support
the development of Italy especially in times of crisis
making competitiveness of the Italian fleet our main
aim. Our programme is divided into three themes: attention
to environment, innovation and quality. These
are all key elements in a green economy which acts
as a stimulant in increasing the sustainable growth of
transport by sea.
