Per adeguarsi alla necessità di una
maggiore operatività nel porto la cooperativa
ha provveduto ad allestire
una nuova e più tecnologica sala
operativa aggiungendo alla sua flotta
due nuove imbarcazioni, battezzate
Mehari e Portosalvo, che sono state
consegnate durante una cerimonia
alla presenza del Comandante della
Capitaneria, Domenico Picone, e del
responsabile della Sezione Tecnica,
Raffaele Vezzi.

NEW VESSELS FOR NAPLES

The Cooperative tug company “Gruppo Ormeggiatori
e Battellieri del Porto di Napoli” as part of its
drive to improve services and standards has opened
new operating offices and added two new vessels to
the fleet. The tug service started at the beginning of
the last century with a number of companies. After
the first world war when all commercial port activity
stopped the port business grew quickly and as a result
a single tug company was formed in 1925.
As a result of the importance of its central position
in the Mediterranean the port of Naples enjoyed
a strong commercial revival. The second World War
caused the Tug company to be wound up in 1942 to
start again in 1947. In 1976 the Tug company joined
with the port boatmen to form the Gruppo Ormeggiatori
e Battellieri del Porto di Napoli.
Antonio Di Bernardo, president of the cooperative
explained “ the staff have always had the knowledge
of the port and the possibilities of berthing any type
of vessel. They have solutions for all problems in the
wharf and berthing areas including the whole area
of the port and its waters. The services are operated
rapidly as a result of their professionalism and constant
presence in the port.” In order to be able to
give more service, the cooperative has created a new
technologically up to date operating centre and added
two vessels to
its fleet. Named
