(2007: 84-85) som Irenaeus in hierdie verband so op:
Irenaeus still thinks in terms of an End of the world in which this
restoration will be consummated, and resists the ‘otherworldly’ ideas of
the gnostics. Necessarily this implies the resurrection of the body, the
restoration of the whole person by the creative power of God, and not
some inherent immortality of the soul as the Platonists assumed...
herhaaldelike belydenis van Jesus as Here is ook opvallend:
But the Lord, our Christ... established fallen man by His own strength,
and recalled him to incorruption (Irenaeus 2010: Book II, 211).
Our Lord also by His passion destroyed death, and dispersed error,
and put an end to corruption, and destroyed ignorance, while He
manifested life and revealed truth, and bestowed the gift of incorruption
(Irenaeus 2010: Book II, 212).
Vir Irenaeus (2010: Boek V, 606-607) gaan dit om die “...salvation of
the complete man, that is, of the soul and body”. Frances Young wys
Others [maintain], as I have said in the fi rst book, that while the soul
is saved, their body does not participate in the salvation which comes
from God... (Irenaeus 2010: Book V, 606).
And still further, some affi rm that neither their soul nor their body
can receive eternal life, but merely the inner man. Moreover, they
