Van Tertullianus:

…there is one only God …Creator … who produced all things out of
nothing through his own Word …that this Word is called his Son, and
under the name of God …at last was brought down by the Spirit and
the power of God the Father into the Virgin Mary, was made fl esh
in her womb, and, being born of her, lived as Jesus Christ… was
crucifi ed, and rose again the third day… He sent… the Holy Ghost to
lead such as believe… (Young 2007: 10).
Van Origenes:
… The holy apostles, when preaching the faith of Christ, took certain
doctrines, those namely, which they believed to be necessary ones,
and delivered them in the plainest terms to all believers… The kind
of doctrines which are believed in plain terms through the apostolic
teaching are as follows: First, that God is one, who created and set
in order all things… Then again: Christ Jesus …was begotten of the
Father before every created thing …in these last times … was made
man, was made fl esh, although he was God… He… was born of a
virgin and the Holy Spirit… And this Jesus Christ …suffered in truth
…and truly died our common death. Moreover he truly rose from the
dead, and after the resurrection …was then taken up to heaven…
Then again the apostles delivered this doctrine, that the Holy Spirit is
united in honour and dignity with the Father and the Son… (Young
2007: 10).
Hoewel die werklike opstanding van die Here Jesus Christus nie vanuit
die dokumentasie van die Vroeë Kerk en hulle oortuiging betwyfel kan
word nie, bly daar vir hedendaagse teoloë soms steeds vrae. Daar kan
immers nooit van die misterie van God weggekom word nie. Ons ken
net ten dele, en verstaan nie alles nie. Met verwysing na Paulus se
argumente in 1 Korintiërs 15 oor die opstanding, sê Macquarrie:
...Paul’s arguments, make it clear that what is resurrected is not the
dead body that has been laid in the grave… So resurrection cannot
be anything so simple as the resuscitation of a corpse… It would be
quite different from the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who the New
Testament claims, has conquered death and is alive for ever. To go
back to Paul’s argument, a natural body of fl esh and blood could not
be the bearer of a death-transcending existence (Macquarrie 2003:
408).
The mystery of how mind and body are related in the human
being is still far from being fully understood, and therefore the
debate about the resurrection of Jesus Christ is still going on
(Macquarrie 2003: 409).
