…there <strong>is</strong> one only God …Creator … who produced all things out of<br />

nothing through h<strong>is</strong> own Word …that th<strong>is</strong> Word <strong>is</strong> called h<strong>is</strong> Son, and<br />

under the name of God …at last was brought down by the Spirit and<br />

the power of God the Father into the Virgin Mary, was made fl esh<br />

in her womb, and, being born of her, lived as Jesus Chr<strong>is</strong>t… was<br />

crucifi ed, and rose again the third day… He sent… the Holy Ghost to<br />

lead such as believe… (Young 2007: 10).<br />

Van Origenes:<br />

… The holy apostles, when preaching the faith of Chr<strong>is</strong>t, took certain<br />

doctrines, those namely, which they believed to be necessary ones,<br />

and delivered them in the plainest terms to all believers… The kind<br />

of doctrines which are believed in plain terms through the apostolic<br />

teaching are as follows: First, that God <strong>is</strong> one, who created and set<br />

in order all things… Then again: Chr<strong>is</strong>t Jesus …was begotten of the<br />

Father before every created thing …in these last times … was made<br />

man, was made fl esh, although he was God… He… was born of a<br />

<strong>vir</strong>gin and the Holy Spirit… And th<strong>is</strong> Jesus Chr<strong>is</strong>t …suffered in truth<br />

…and truly died our common death. Moreover he truly rose from the<br />

dead, and after the resurrection …was then taken up to heaven…<br />

Then again the apostles delivered th<strong>is</strong> doctrine, that the Holy Spirit <strong>is</strong><br />

united in honour and dignity with the Father and the Son… (Young<br />

2007: 10).<br />

Hoewel die werklike opstanding van die Here Jesus Chr<strong>is</strong>tus nie vanuit<br />

die dokumentasie van die Vroeë Kerk en hulle oortuiging betwyfel kan<br />

word nie, bly daar <strong>vir</strong> hedendaagse teoloë soms steeds vrae. Daar kan<br />

immers nooit van die m<strong>is</strong>terie van God weggekom word nie. Ons ken<br />

net ten dele, en verstaan nie alles nie. Met verwysing na Paulus se<br />

argumente in 1 Korintiërs 15 oor die opstanding, sê Macquarrie:<br />

...Paul’s arguments, make it clear that what <strong>is</strong> resurrected <strong>is</strong> not the<br />

dead body that has been laid in the grave… So resurrection cannot<br />

be anything so simple as the resuscitation of a corpse… It would be<br />

quite different from the resurrection of Jesus Chr<strong>is</strong>t, who the New<br />

Testament claims, has conquered death and <strong>is</strong> alive for ever. To go<br />

back to Paul’s argument, a natural body of fl esh and blood could not<br />

be the bearer of a death-transcending ex<strong>is</strong>tence (Macquarrie 2003:<br />

408).<br />

The mystery of how mind and body are related in the human<br />

being <strong>is</strong> still far from being fully understood, and therefore the<br />

debate about the resurrection of Jesus Chr<strong>is</strong>t <strong>is</strong> still going on<br />

(Macquarrie 2003: 409).<br />
