DEVELOPMENTS FOR 2000 FROM O.P.E.C. LTD.
Cost Effective Ways of Protecting the Enviroment
O.P.E.C ltd, has been developing its policy of helping industry worldwide to ensure
that we live in a safer and cleaner environment. Since its formation in 1980 O.P.E.C ltd.
(Oil Pollution Enviromental Control ltd.) has continued to design, manufacture and supply
systems for removing surface oil contamination from industrial interceptors, oil/water
separators, settlement ponds and lagoons, as well as providing equipment for emergency
oil spill response on inland, coastal and offshore waters. We are market leaders in both
spheres of activity.
In 1995, as a result of involvement in the above activities on refineries – oil and petrochemicals,
we became aware of the need to introduce new technologies to help reduce the
effect on the environment of crude oil sludge and flare gas emissions.
A separate company was set up – OPEC ltd., to develop this type of business which
resulted in the supply of P43 rotary jet mixers for crude oil storage tanks and Wap–Flaro
for treatment of refinery gases and reducing in some cases even eliminating the need for
gas flare stacks.
P43 Rotary Jet Mixer System
This patented equipment is now being installed as permanent items of equipment in
crude oil storage tanks, so reducing the build up of sludge quite dramatically. In some cases
the reduction is as high as 90% and the product value of recovered soluble hydrocarbon
increases in proportion. P43 rotary jet mixers are being installed worldwide with extremely
good results. New developments of this product are also now available, particularly
for smaller size tanks – in the 25–40 metre diameter range, with small manway access
12”–18” diameter. Other equipment for tank cleaning – in addition to the P43 rotary jet
mixer is also available, including 2 and 3 phase sludge separation systems – trailer mounted
for mobility to complement the P43 in operation.
Recovery of soluble hydrocarbons being so good, outweigh the initial installation cosrs,
indeed prove to be an efficient source of increased product stock added value, which
very quickly shows a profit. Users of this system include Exxon, Esso, Shell, BP, repsol,
Nippon Oil, Chinese Petroleum Corporation, Formosa Plastics and many others. Installations
include complete crude oil tank farms – one installation on one site includes 28
centre mounted P43’s with a further 6 under consideration – if the tanks are to be built.
Wap-Flaro – Refinery Gases Recovery System
This patented process is now in operation in 10 refineries in the Far East. The package
of equipment is designed to be ‘plugged in’ as a retrofit into relatively small space, in order
