150PARMA –KALA –N¯VLTOVÁ FI·ÁKOVÁ –RA·KOVÁ ZELINKOVÁ: Netradiãní materiál …with a range of similar artefacts evidently serving for other purposes. The remaining two objects fromIvanovice that were made from ox radius bone however differ to the above-described in that theyhave a single massive hole and do not feature distinct finishing and smoothing; they are furthermoredated differently (fig. 7: 4, 5; Early Bronze Age, early Urnfield culture). These pieces cannot befunctionally regarded as remains of skates; we are able only to classify them into a broader groupof bone industry with an unknown function.Assemblages of osteological material from Middle and Late Bronze Age sites (and apparentlyalso from the Late Eneolithic period) from the territory of the Czech Republic include specific artefactsmodified via cutting, drilling and abrasion work on long bones. It appears, from a smaller amountof publications, that they also include artefacts that can be interpreted functionally as skates or sledrunners, as well as artefacts of differing functions, used as burnishers for hide, or other. Their identificationin large numbers of assemblages from large-scale rescue excavations performed in the pastdecades remains a challenge for the future as there is no reason to assume that a randomly accessiblesample from southern and central Moravian sites could be exceptional any way for authors. We canall but hope that a detailed technological-functional analysis could specify their function or coulddetermine potential groups that differ in the method of finishing, the material and the utilisation ofsuch objects. It would then be possible to speculate about both unusual human bone artefacts in thiscontext.English by Zuzana MaritzJIŘÍ KALA, Ústav archeologické památkové péče Brno, v.v.i., Kaloudova 30, CZ-612 00 Brno; kala@uapp.czMIRIAM NÝVLTOVÁ FIŠÁKOVÁ, Archeologický ústav AV ČR, v.v.i., Královopolská 147, CZ-612 00 Brnomiriam@iabrno.czDAVID PARMA, Ústav archeologické památkové péče Brno, v.v.i., Kaloudova 30, CZ-612 00 Brnoparma@uapp.czMICHAELA RAŠKOVÁ ZELINKOVÁ, Ústav antropologie Přírodovědecké fakulty MU, Vinařská 5, CZ-603 00Brno; m.zelinko@email.cz
