matched to specific sperm ORs (OR7A5-Furaneol, OR4D1-5α-Androst-16-en, OR1D2-<br />
Buttersäure and 1-Octen-3-on).<br />
In parallel I have examined the electrophysiological properties of immature male germ cells<br />
of mice. This project is focussed on cultured mouse spermatogonia, since the physiology of<br />
these cells is almost unknown. I could establish a coculture system of spermatogonia and<br />
Sertoli cells and I identified voltage-activated K + and Ca 2+ channels. Furthermore, I fo<strong>und</strong><br />
different P2X receptors in spermatogonia and I was able to provide data suggesting the<br />
expression of TRP channels in murine spermatogonia.<br />
Using a combination of molecular and cellular methods as well as high-resolution Ca 2+ -<br />
imaging and electrophysiological recording techniques, the present data provides new insights<br />
into the role of mammalian ORs in the context of maturation of germ cells and physiological<br />
properties of mammalian germ cells. In addition, this work represents the first<br />
electrophysiological description of cultured mouse spermatogonia.<br />
