Yowdanchi.—A tribe Ev<strong>in</strong>g formerly on <strong>the</strong> Tule<br />

Kiver <strong>in</strong> Tulare County, Cal. The remnant is now located<br />

on <strong>the</strong> Tule Rirer Reservation. The number<br />

enumerated <strong>in</strong> <strong>1910</strong> was 3, all <strong>in</strong> California.<br />

YUCHEAN STOCK.<br />

A tribe form<strong>in</strong>g by itself an <strong>in</strong>dependent l<strong>in</strong>guistic<br />

stock. Their habitat <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> eighteenth century was<br />

on <strong>the</strong> middle Savannah River, Ga. In 1836 <strong>the</strong>y<br />

removed to Oklahoma where <strong>the</strong> majority live among<br />

<strong>the</strong> Creeks, a portion be<strong>in</strong>g settled among <strong>the</strong> Shaw-<br />

nee. The Yuchi, as enumerated <strong>in</strong> <strong>1910</strong>, numbered 78,<br />

of which 74 were <strong>in</strong> Oklahoma <strong>and</strong> 4 <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> District of<br />

Columbia.<br />

YUKIAN STOCK.<br />

StocTc as a whole.—^A Californian stock occupyiag<br />

three small separate areas <strong>in</strong> Mendoc<strong>in</strong>o, Sonoma,<br />

Lake, <strong>and</strong> Napa Counties.<br />

The <strong>Indian</strong>s of <strong>the</strong> Yukian stock, as entmierated<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>1910</strong>, numbered 198. The tribes of this stock, for<br />

which members were reported, are as follows*<br />

Coast Yuki.<br />

Redwood.<br />

Wappo.<br />

Yuki.<br />

Coast Yuki.— ^The nor<strong>the</strong>rnmost of <strong>the</strong> three smaller<br />

subdivisions of this stock. They occupied orig<strong>in</strong>ally<br />

<strong>the</strong> nor<strong>the</strong>rn portion of <strong>the</strong> coast of Mendoc<strong>in</strong>o County,<br />

Cal., <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> few survivors are ma<strong>in</strong>ly to be found <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> same region still. They are not reservation<br />

<strong>Indian</strong>s. The number enumerated <strong>in</strong> <strong>1910</strong> was 15, aU<br />

<strong>in</strong> California.<br />

Redwood (syn. Huchnom).—^A small subdivision of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Yuki <strong>in</strong> Mendoc<strong>in</strong>o County, Cal., now located on<br />

<strong>the</strong> Roimd Valley Reservation. They are commonly<br />

known by <strong>the</strong> name of Redwood. The number enumerated<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>1910</strong> was 15, all <strong>in</strong> California.<br />

Wappo.— ^The sou<strong>the</strong>rnmost of <strong>the</strong> three smaller<br />

subdivisions of this stock. Their habitat was <strong>in</strong><br />

nor<strong>the</strong>rn California <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> vic<strong>in</strong>ity of <strong>the</strong> po<strong>in</strong>t where<br />

Lake, Sonoma, <strong>and</strong> Napa Counties jo<strong>in</strong>. The number<br />

enumerated <strong>in</strong> <strong>1910</strong> was 73, all <strong>in</strong> California.<br />

Yuki.—The largest group or tribe of this stock.<br />

Their habitat, s<strong>in</strong>ce earliest traditional times, has been<br />

<strong>in</strong> nor<strong>the</strong>rn Mendoc<strong>in</strong>o County, Cal., chiefly <strong>in</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

about Round Valley. Skice <strong>the</strong> establishment of <strong>the</strong><br />

Round Valley Reservation <strong>in</strong> 1856, <strong>the</strong> majority of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Yuki have been located <strong>the</strong>re, although some few<br />

are scattered over <strong>the</strong> rema<strong>in</strong>der of <strong>the</strong>ir former habi-<br />

tat. The number enumerated <strong>in</strong> <strong>1910</strong> was 95, of<br />

which 91 were <strong>in</strong> California.<br />

YUMAN STOCK.<br />

Stock as a wlwle.— ^The area occupied by this stock <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>United</strong> <strong>States</strong> lies wholly <strong>in</strong> sou<strong>the</strong>astern Arizona<br />

<strong>and</strong> sou<strong>the</strong>rn California. It also extends over <strong>the</strong><br />

larger portion of Lower California.<br />

The <strong>Indian</strong>s of <strong>the</strong>Yuman stock <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>United</strong> <strong>States</strong>,<br />

as enumerated <strong>in</strong> <strong>1910</strong>, numbered 4,279. The tribes<br />

of this stock, for which members were reported, are as<br />

follows:<br />
