Tuscarora had changed but little <strong>in</strong> numbers <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

last 40 years.<br />

Wy<strong>and</strong>ot (syn. Huron).—^A tribe better known perhaps<br />

as <strong>the</strong> Huron. When first known to Europeans<br />

early <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> seventeenth century, <strong>the</strong>y occupied a small<br />

area south <strong>and</strong> east of Georgian Bay <strong>in</strong> Ontario, Can-<br />

ada. Their history dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> next 200 years is full<br />

of vicissitudes <strong>and</strong> w<strong>and</strong>er<strong>in</strong>g. In <strong>the</strong> early n<strong>in</strong>eteenth<br />

century a portion of <strong>the</strong> tribe was located <strong>in</strong> Ohio, but<br />

<strong>in</strong> 1842 moved west to Kansas <strong>and</strong> later to a reserva-<br />

tion <strong>in</strong> nor<strong>the</strong>astern Oklahoma, where <strong>the</strong>y now reside.<br />

The rema<strong>in</strong>der of <strong>the</strong> tribe is located near Quebec,<br />

Canada.<br />

The number enumerated <strong>in</strong> <strong>1910</strong> was 353, of which<br />

320 were <strong>in</strong> Oklahoma. Comparison with previous<br />

years for that portion of <strong>the</strong> tribe <strong>in</strong> Oklahoma may<br />

be made from <strong>the</strong> reports of <strong>the</strong> Commissioner of <strong>Indian</strong><br />

Affairs, as follows:<br />
