Evaluating Educational Innovations: A
Scholarly, Patient-Focused Approach

As a result of this workshop, participants will be
able to:
1. Apply a scholarly approach to the evaluation
of an educational innovation
2. Describe why this approach enhances rigour
in the evaluation of educational innovations

3. Make explicit the link between their
educational innovation and enhancing patient
outcomes
4. Identify strategies for building organizational
capacity for evaluation and education
scholarship
Instructional Methods:
This highly interactive workshop will begin with
an overview of the evaluation framework.
Application of the framework will be illustrated
using a newly developed resident teaching
program for adults with developmental
disabilities. In small groups, participants will
have the opportunity to apply the framework in
order to design an evaluation for an educational
innovation of their choice.
This workshop will appeal to both novice and
intermediate educators.
