Evaluating Educational Innovations: A<br />

Scholarly, Patient-Focused Approach<br />

As a result of this workshop, participants will be<br />

able to:<br />

1. Apply a scholarly approach to the evaluation<br />

of an educational innovation<br />

2. Describe why this approach enhances rigour<br />

in the evaluation of educational innovations<br />

CANADIAN CONFERENCE ON MEDICAL EDUCATION 2013<br />

3. Make explicit the link between their<br />

educational innovation and enhancing patient<br />

outcomes<br />

4. Identify strategies for building organizational<br />

capacity for evaluation and education<br />

scholarship<br />

Instructional Methods:<br />

This highly interactive workshop will begin with<br />

an overview of the evaluation framework.<br />

Application of the framework will be illustrated<br />

using a newly developed resident teaching<br />

program for adults with developmental<br />

disabilities. In small groups, participants will<br />

have the opportunity to apply the framework in<br />

order to design an evaluation for an educational<br />

innovation of their choice.<br />

This workshop will appeal to both novice and<br />

intermediate educators.<br />
