Williams retired from active astronaut status in March 2008. From 2008 until 2011, Williams was Professor of Surgery<br />

and Director of Medical Robotics at McMaster University, where he led a team dedicated to developing innovative<br />

technologies to help change the future of surgery in local and remote patient care. From 2010 to 2011, he served as<br />

Chief Medical Officer, Patient Safety and Quality, at St. Joseph’s Healthcare System in Hamilton. Williams’ focus was on<br />

research as well as providing strategic guidance in physician leadership development and clinical resource management,<br />

with attention on building innovative strategies for physician recruitment.<br />

The recipient of four honourary degrees and many awards, Williams has participated in numerous research studies and<br />

served on many boards and committees. In July 2011, Williams became President and Chief Executive Officer of<br />

Southlake Regional Health Centre. In June 2012, he was inducted into the Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame.<br />

Dave Williams is married and has two children. In his spare time, he enjoys flying, scuba diving, hiking, sailing,<br />

kayaking, canoeing, and downhill and cross-country skiing.<br />
