Qualifi cation<br />

Foundation Certifi cate in Building Craft Occupations (16 –18 year olds only) Delivered at the<br />

North Halifax Skills Centre (Club Lane) only<br />

What will I study?<br />

This is a short multi-trade course which runs over 18 weeks. At the end of this period you will<br />

have achieved a notional Level 1 in building craft occupations. You will study units such as:<br />

Handling and Storing Materials and Components » Applying Finishing Materials »<br />

Removing and Replacing Fittings and Fixtures » Mixing Materials » Cutting, Laying and<br />

Fixing Components<br />

Moving on<br />

All successful students will get the opportunity to progress onto a trade specifi c full Level 1<br />

construction course which will be in either:<br />

Wood occupations » Trowel trades » Painting and decorating occupations » Plastering »<br />

Employment opportunities could include an apprenticeship in your chosen trade area.<br />

BteC CertifiCate and diPloma in ConstruCtion<br />

Qualifi cation<br />

BTEC Level 1 Certifi cate and Diploma in Construction (16 –18 year olds only) Delivered at the<br />

North Halifax Skills Centre and main site (Francis Street)<br />

What will I study?<br />

This BTEC qualifi cation is based around theory and practical learning. You may choose to do<br />

any of the units subject to enrolment numbers. Some of the units are:<br />

Starting work in construction » Developing brickwork skills » Health and safety and welfare<br />

in construction » Developing electrical skills » Interview skills<br />

If you choose to go on to do the Diploma it will require more time in College to complete<br />

the qualifi cation.<br />
