Qualification<br />

Intermediate Level 2 and Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 Supporting Teaching & Learning<br />

What will I study?<br />

The Supporting Teaching & Learning qualification provides you with a secure understanding<br />

of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people<br />

in school environments. The Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications are divided into specific units.<br />

These cover subjects including child and young person development, safe-guarding their<br />

welfare, the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion.<br />

There are no formal entry requirements but you will need to be a at least 16 years of age. You<br />

will also need to be working or volunteering in a school environment for at least 16 hours<br />

a week as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills. Your competence<br />

and skills will be assessed by a qualified assessor in the work-place and your knowledge<br />

and understanding will be assessed using a range of assignments and practical activities.<br />

For those wishing to do the Advanced Apprenticeship you should have at least 12 months<br />

experience in an appropriate school setting and have already completed an appropriate NVQ<br />

Level 2 teaching assistant qualification or equivalent.<br />

At the end of the Apprenticeship you will be qualified in Supporting Teaching and Learning in<br />

Schools and have gained the following qualifications:<br />

» Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools allowing successful<br />

candidates to work in roles that support pupils’ learning including teaching assistants,<br />

learning support assistants and special needs assistants<br />

» Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools allowing<br />

successful candidates who are experienced teaching assistants, learning support<br />

assistants, cover supervisors, parent support advisers to further develop their careers<br />

Moving on<br />

The course will give you the knowledge required to work as a Teaching Assistant and offers<br />

you the opportunity to progress from Intermediate to Advanced Apprenticeship.<br />

The Level 3 qualification allows progression to Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) status,<br />

to relevant Foundation Degrees and Degrees and into the work place.<br />
