What will I study?<br />

This course consists of you working through a number of work based units. Some of these<br />

units for bench/site are:<br />

Doors » Windows » Stair cases » Roofs » Floors » Fitting and fixing moulds<br />

The above units are a combination of Site or Bench. At level 2 the learner will choose one route<br />

and stay with it for the duration of the whole qualification. At the end of this qualification you<br />

will have a good degree of knowledge on joinery and will be able to work on site. Assessment<br />

is through observation and written tests.<br />

Moving on<br />

All successful students may have the opportunity to progress onto a site or bench joinery<br />

diploma level 3 or an NVQ level 3 through the work based evidence route.<br />

Employment opportunities could include an apprenticeship in your chosen trade area. Many<br />

have chosen to become self employed at this stage due to the knowledge they have gained<br />

form the course.<br />

What will I study?<br />

This course consists of you completing a number of work-related units following either a<br />

Bench Joinery or a Site Carpentry route. Theoretical units are the same for both joinery and<br />

carpentry which involve: Project based theory » Basic site management » Calculations and<br />

estimations » Solving geometric problem.<br />

Examples of Bench Joinery are: Setting out and making curved components.<br />

Site Carpentry elements include: Setting out and making a geometrical roof » Fitting site<br />

components such as doors, windows and floors<br />

These are achieved through assessment by observation, questioning and practical phase test.<br />

Moving on<br />

This exciting new course will equip students for progression in the field of Environmental<br />

Technology, an area widely acknowledged to be suffering skills shortages or progression<br />

could be to a HNC or HND in a related subject (such as Environmental Conservation) at another<br />

college, or they can progress onto a Level 3 NVQ if they are in employment<br />
