What will I study?
This is a one year BTEC First Diploma designed as a stepping stone towards entering initial
employment in such positions as customer service assistant, offi ce based work or in general
business. You will study a range of exciting and interactive units over two terms, which
includes the following:
Exploring business purposes » People and organisations » Investigating fi nancial control »
Business communication » Developing customer relations.
Assessment of the programme is through completing projects and assignments that are
based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.
Throughout the programme of study, students will also study Workskills, which helps prepare
them for work and their future careers. The focus of the whole programme is to develop
transferable skills and support the students in their numeracy and literacy

The course could lead to a wide range of career opportunities including in business

The tutors have provided me with multiple opportunities to learn and develop
skills in ways I didn’t think was imaginable. They have given me opportunities to
meet new people and provided a serious boost in my confi dence levels through
guidance. I would most defi nitely recommend the course, the support received
from tutors’ means there is a high success rate during all of the students in
the class including myself. I have been able to make friends as well as make
contacts that I never thought possible, the college have provided me with

What will I study?
The course is designed to broaden your understanding and knowledge of business and to
develop important personal, academic and business skills. This level 3 programme comprises
of 18 units, delivered over two years. It will cover the fundamental business disciplines as well
as some specialised areas to further enhance the student’s knowledge, for example: Business
Start Up and Web Page Design. As the programme has an enterprise emphasis, the students
will be expected to engage in a dynamic enterprise experience, whereby they will be given
opportunities to manage their own business. The successful programme attracts UCAS points
making university access a natural progression, As a well established, nationally recognised
qualifi cation it is also recognised by employers, for those seeking work after completion. The
programme is the equivalent of 3 A levels.
In addition to the main course, you may be expected to complete a Level 2 qualifi cation in
Employability Skills or in Enterprise. This supports the main programme of study, helping
students develop transferable skills such as presentation skills, business acumen and
planning skills.
