L’Institut Català del Sòl volgué dignificar un lloc com aquesta
part de la vila vella d’Olot, a petició de l’ajuntament de la ciutat.
La bona entesa establerta amb els patrocinadors, en aquest
cas amb IAMPSA, que en tot moment van col·laborar en tots
els aspectes sense cap dubte, ha estat decisiva per solucionar
molts problemes que representa la instal·lació d’un tipus d’escultura
de característiques especials.
El títol de l’escultura és Vitrix, una peculiaritat del basalt que es
troba a la comarca i, en especial i més concretament, en aquesta
part del riu. La paraula ens recorda també la cristal·lització i
el vidre que, en aquesta escultura, és la matèria principal.
L’obra és una columna piramidal de planta amb cinc costats,
amb un poliedre irregular a la part superior com a peça exaltada
per valorar-ne la contemplació des dels diferents costats. És una
escultura abstracta d’aportació a l’art contemporani. La mida
total és de 6,4 m d’alçada i consta d’un sòcol de 0,9 m, una
columna piramidal de 4,2 m i un capell d’1,3 m d’alçada. Està
molt relacionada amb el sentiment que jo tenia pel riu Fluvià. El
fet de pensar en un passeig i en una peça per valorar aquest espai
em va portar a fer una escultura de vidre on el color i la llum
–sense oblidar, però, la forma- hi fossin molt importants. Per
tant, el mateix sentiment romàntic era un motor essencial i per
això espero que els colors encaminin a l’evocació. Tot això, que
en un principi només era un desig, s’havia de fer tangible i, amb
la consulta a l’un i l’assessorament de l’altre, vaig arribar a
donar cos a aquesta obra. Sento un gran orgull que aquest esforç
sigui útil per a la ciutat d’Olot, tan estimada per mi.

The Catalan Institute of Land wanted to dignify a place like this
part of the old town of Olot, a petition requested by the town
council of the town. The good understanding established with the
sponsors, in this case IAMPSA, which always collaborated in all
aspects without any hesitation, has been decisive in solving many
problems which represent the installation of a type of sculpture of
special characteristics. The title of the sculpture is Vitrix, a peculiarity
of the basalt which is found in the area and, especially and
more specifically, on this part of the river. The word reminds us
also of crystallisation and the glass that, in this sculpture, is the
main material. The work is a pyramidal column of plant with 5
sides, with an irregular polyhedron on the upper part as a piece
exalted perfect to bring out contemplation from the different sides.
It is an abstract sculpture of which no anecdote has to be considered
but instead, the plasticity and contribution to contemporary
art. The total size is of 6.4m in height and consists of a skirting
board of 0.9m, a pyramidal column of 4.2 m and a cocoon of 1.3
m high. It is closely related to the feeling I had for the Fluvia
River. The fact of thinking of a passage and of a piece to bring out
the best from this space made me make a sculpture of glass where
the colour and the light – without forgetting though the form –
were very important. So, the same romantic feeling was a special
engine and for this I hope that the colours coincide with the evocation.
All this, which at first was only a desire, had to be made
tangible and with the consultation with one and the assessing of
the other, I managed to give body to this work. I feel great pride
that this effort was useful for the city of Olot, which I so love.
