Aquesta ermita de Sant Andreu d’Ullastret s’habilitava com a
museu, i es va decidir recordar-ne l’advocació amb un Sant
Andreu a la façana. Normalment, l’obra parteix d’uns dibuixos
previs que passaran a ser esbossos i, finalment, projecte definitiu.
En aquest cas, l’obra va ser considerada massa important, i
se’n va fer una versió diferent i més petita.
El mur assenyalat és de pedra rústica, més aviat petita; el ferro
semblava un material adient, sobretot perquè permetia la creació
d’obres intenses en el seu modelatge. Així se’m van acudir
les formes còncaves dels braços, les cames, el tòrax i la cara,
que donaven peu a jugar amb volum sortit o tallat i mogut, provocant
i suggerint la imatge i el drama del sant penjat a la creu
en forma d’aspa.
L’esbós es féu en planxa de plom per tenir més facilitat de
maniobra, i els definitius en planxa de ferro forjat.
This hermitage of Saint Andrew of Ullastret was reformed as a
museum and it was decided to remember the avocation with a
Saint Andrew on the façade. Normally the work is born out of
previous drawings which became sketches and finally the definitive
project. In this case the work was considered to be too
important, and a different and smaller version was made.
The shown wall is of rustic stone, quite small; iron seemed to
be adequate suitable material, mostly because it allowed for
the creation of intensely modelled works. In this way the concave
forms of the arms, legs, chest and face, occurred to me,
which allow one to play with stuck-out, cut and moved volume,
provoking and suggesting the image and the drama of the saint
hanging from the cross in cross form.
The outline is made in lead sheets to facilitate the managing
and the definitive in forged iron sheets.
