2. CBT Syllabus<br />

• the engine <strong>to</strong> run <strong>to</strong>o fast when they are trying <strong>to</strong> slow down;<br />

• increased wear on the engine; <strong>an</strong>d<br />

• more fuel <strong>to</strong> be used <strong>an</strong>d more pollution produced.<br />

When starting the engine your pupils need <strong>to</strong> make sure they:<br />

• have selected neutral;<br />

• don’t hold the kick start lever down after the kick-over; <strong>an</strong>d<br />

• don’t hold the starter but<strong>to</strong>n on after the engine has started.<br />

When s<strong>to</strong>pping the engine they need <strong>to</strong> make sure they don’t:<br />

• use the kill switch unless in <strong>an</strong> emergency; <strong>an</strong>d/or<br />

• forget <strong>to</strong> switch off the fuel tap (if fitted).<br />

MODULE 2<br />

Element C<br />

Practical Riding (this element c<strong>an</strong> be carried out in a safe environment<br />

either off-road or on-road)<br />

In this element your pupils will begin riding a mo<strong>to</strong>rcycle. By the time they have<br />

finished this element they will have developed enough <strong>basic</strong> skills <strong>to</strong> allow them <strong>to</strong><br />

ride a mo<strong>to</strong>rcycle under control.<br />

Pupils should learn <strong>an</strong>d demonstrate the essential techniques including rear<br />

observation <strong>an</strong>d the Observation - Signal - M<strong>an</strong>oeuvre (OSM) <strong>an</strong>d Position - Speed<br />

- Look (PSL) routines. You need <strong>to</strong> make sure your pupils c<strong>an</strong> demonstrate these<br />

practical skills consistently before taking them out on<strong>to</strong> the road.<br />

Move off <strong>an</strong>d ride in a straight line <strong>an</strong>d bring the vehicle <strong>to</strong> a controlled s<strong>to</strong>p<br />

You will need <strong>to</strong> explain <strong>an</strong>d where necessary demonstrate what is required.<br />

You should show your pupils how <strong>to</strong> move off <strong>an</strong>d how <strong>to</strong> s<strong>to</strong>p. This will include:<br />
