• using the clutch;<br />
• selecting first gear;<br />

• keeping bal<strong>an</strong>ce; <strong>an</strong>d<br />
• using the brakes <strong>to</strong> s<strong>to</strong>p.<br />
Explain <strong>to</strong> your pupils how <strong>to</strong> cover the rear brake <strong>an</strong>d give them the opportunity<br />
<strong>to</strong> put this in<strong>to</strong> practice. You will also need <strong>to</strong> show them how <strong>to</strong> ride in a straight<br />
line, including advice on how they c<strong>an</strong> keep their bal<strong>an</strong>ce.<br />
Basic skills – They will need <strong>to</strong> practise until they c<strong>an</strong>:<br />
• coordinate the controls when moving off <strong>an</strong>d s<strong>to</strong>pping;<br />
• keep their bal<strong>an</strong>ce; <strong>an</strong>d<br />
• use both brakes in a smooth <strong>an</strong>d controlled m<strong>an</strong>ner.<br />

Giving your pupils a reference point at which <strong>to</strong> s<strong>to</strong>p will help them judge how <strong>to</strong><br />
