4. Appendices<br />

CONDITIONS OF AUTHORITY - CBT<br />

CONDITIONS ON WHICH AUTHORISATION TO PROVIDE AN APPROVED<br />

COMPULSORY BASIC TRAINING (CBT) COURSE FOR MOTORCYCLISTS IS<br />

GRANTED<br />

1. The conditions on which you are approved <strong>to</strong> provide a CBT course for<br />

mo<strong>to</strong>rcyclists are as follows:<br />

i. your name is entered on the Approved Mo<strong>to</strong>rcycle Instruc<strong>to</strong>r (AMI) Register;<br />

ii. you shall carry out approved CBT courses only at locations which are safe,<br />

legal <strong>an</strong>d convenient;<br />

iii. you shall ensure that pupils have a valid driving licence which covers the<br />

entitlement for the category of moped or mo<strong>to</strong>rcycle being ridden;<br />

iv. you must ensure that you are adequately insured <strong>to</strong> deliver on-road <strong>an</strong>d/or<br />

off-road <strong>training</strong>;<br />

v. you shall deliver <strong>training</strong> of which the maximum ratio between pupils <strong>an</strong>d<br />

trainer shall not exceed 4:1 for off-road <strong>training</strong> or 2:1 for on-road <strong>training</strong>;<br />

vi. you shall deliver all on-road <strong>training</strong> from a mo<strong>to</strong>rcycle while giving<br />

instruction <strong>to</strong> your pupil via radio communication;<br />

vii. you shall deliver <strong>training</strong> <strong>to</strong> a st<strong>an</strong>dard which is acceptable <strong>to</strong> DVA;<br />

viii. you must ensure that you <strong>an</strong>d your pupils wear appropriate fluorescent or<br />

reflective safety apparel throughout the duration of the course;<br />

ix. you shall ensure that <strong>an</strong>y <strong>training</strong> mo<strong>to</strong>rcycles used for the course are in a<br />

roadworthy condition, adequately insured <strong>an</strong>d comply with all legal<br />

requirements;<br />

x. you shall ensure that pupils do not exceed seven hours <strong>training</strong> during <strong>an</strong>y<br />

24 hour period <strong>an</strong>d sufficient breaks are included of at least 30 minutes after<br />

a four hour period;
