Forests NSW Regional ESFM plans for the South Coast <strong>and</strong> Tumut sub-regions <strong>of</strong> the Southern region provide details <strong>of</strong> the flora<br />

reserves in each region. ESFM Plans also provide information on the status <strong>of</strong> each flora reserve working plan (i.e. draft or current) at<br />

the time <strong>of</strong> publication.<br />

Current working plans for flora reserves, approved by the Minister for Primary Industries, are publicly available. Remaining working<br />

plans, such as those for new flora reserves, are progressively being completed.<br />

A model plan for informal reserves is under development as an ESFM supplementary plan. Forests NSW has in place the Managing<br />

our Forests Sustainably: Forest Management Zoning in NSW State Forests, Operational Circular 99/10 (State forests <strong>of</strong> NSW (1999)),<br />

which provides detail on areas that are managed by prescriptions (i.e. Forest Management Zones (FMZs) 3B <strong>and</strong> 4). The document<br />

outlines management guidelines <strong>and</strong> activities permissible in each zone. It is referred to in regional ESFM plans, <strong>and</strong> can be found at:<br />

Any ‘large/significant exclusion areas <strong>of</strong> rainforest, HCVOG <strong>and</strong> other prescriptive exclusion areas’ are now included in the informal<br />

reserve network as part <strong>of</strong> the Special Management Zones under section 21A <strong>of</strong> the Forestry Act 1916 <strong>and</strong> are classified as either<br />

FMZ 2 or 3a.<br />
