DECC produced the <strong>2007</strong>–<strong>2008</strong> NSW Biodiversity <strong>and</strong> Climate Change Adaptation Framework<br />

that identifies ways for NSW public sector agencies to tackle climate change <strong>and</strong> its effect on<br />

biodiversity. This was followed with the release <strong>of</strong> the <strong>2007</strong>–<strong>2008</strong> DECC NSW Adaptation<br />

Strategy for Climate Change Impacts on Biodiversity.<br />

DECC coordinates the whole-<strong>of</strong>-government policy for NSW on climate change, which is driven by the<br />

NSW Greenhouse Plan <strong>and</strong> the State Plan – A New Direction for NSW. DECC also coordinates the<br />

NSW Government’s response to climate change, which includes strategies to reduce emissions,<br />

encourage efficient use <strong>of</strong> water, promote sustainability <strong>and</strong> research adaptability to climate change.<br />

The Commonwealth Government’s focus on climate change is enabling NSW to develop new initiatives<br />

that complement the Commonwealth’s initiatives. DECC is working with the Commonwealth on the<br />

development <strong>of</strong> the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme, to be established in 2010.<br />

In October <strong>2007</strong>, DECC produced The <strong>2007</strong>–<strong>2008</strong> NSW Biodiversity <strong>and</strong> Climate Change Adaptation<br />

Framework, which was prepared by the NSW Inter-agency Biodiversity <strong>and</strong> Climate Change Impacts<br />

<strong>and</strong> Adaptation Working Group, <strong>of</strong> which DECC <strong>and</strong> Forests NSW are participants. This document<br />
