Aboriginal elders will have input to l<strong>and</strong> management practices, <strong>and</strong> access to cultural teaching as<br />

well as a place where all people can come together to share cultural <strong>and</strong> historical information.<br />

The Githabul NPs Management Committee, whose role is to advise DECC on the care, control<br />

<strong>and</strong> management <strong>of</strong> the 10 parks, was appointed in November <strong>2007</strong>.<br />

The Githabul People’s non-exclusive native title rights <strong>and</strong> interests have been recognised in nine<br />

national parks <strong>and</strong> 13 state forests in northern New South Wales.<br />

The parks are: Border Ranges National Park, Captains Creek Nature Reserve, Koreelah National<br />

Park, Mount Clunie National Park, Mount Noth<strong>of</strong>agus National Park, part <strong>of</strong> Richmond Range<br />

National Park, Tooloom National Park, Toonumbar National Park <strong>and</strong> Yabbra National Park.<br />

The State forests are: Bald Knob, Beaury, Bookookoorara, Donaldson, Edinburgh Castle,<br />

Koreelah, Mount Lindesay, Richmond Range, South Toonumbar, Toonumbar, Unumgar,<br />

Woodenbong, <strong>and</strong> Yabbra State Forest.<br />

Non-exclusive rights were also recognised over the Dairy Flat Travelling Stock Reserve through<br />

agreement with the Casino Rural L<strong>and</strong>s Protection Board.<br />

In the LNE region:<br />

Memor<strong>and</strong>a <strong>of</strong> Underst<strong>and</strong>ing (MOUs) signed for parks in the Central Coast–Hunter Range<br />

Region.<br />

DECC is also working with the Forster Local Aboriginal L<strong>and</strong> Council to cooperatively manage<br />

l<strong>and</strong>s at Seal Rocks.<br />

The Worimi Board <strong>of</strong> Management met for the first time in March <strong>2008</strong>. The board, with a majority<br />

<strong>of</strong> Worimi registered Aboriginal owners, has the care, control <strong>and</strong> management <strong>of</strong> Worimi NP,<br />

Worimi RP <strong>and</strong> Worimi SCA.<br />

In the Southern <strong>and</strong> Eden regions:<br />

The Biamanga Board <strong>of</strong> Management, which is responsible for the care, control <strong>and</strong> management<br />

<strong>of</strong> Biamanga NP, <strong>and</strong> the Gulaga Board <strong>of</strong> Management, which is responsible for the care, control<br />

<strong>and</strong> management <strong>of</strong> Gulaga NP, met for the first time in August <strong>2007</strong>. The members <strong>of</strong> both<br />

Boards are mainly Yuin registered Aboriginal owners.<br />

In 2004–2005 <strong>and</strong> 2006–<strong>2007</strong> the level <strong>of</strong> Aboriginal community consultation <strong>and</strong> input into decision<br />

making for Parks in each FA was reported on for all regions using data from the SoP qualitative<br />

assessment so as to align the two reporting processes. A SoP survey did not take place in the<br />

<strong>2007</strong>–<strong>2008</strong> reporting year so this data is not available.<br />
