Cultural heritage policies endorsed by the NPWS Executive include its Cultural Heritage Strategic Policy, Consultation Policy, Cultural<br />

Heritage Information Policy <strong>and</strong> Guidelines for the Assessment <strong>of</strong> Impact on Heritage Places. These policies are consistent with the<br />

principles contained in the CRA/RFA project reports: Protective Mechanisms for Cultural Heritage – Generic Version (Cultural<br />

Heritage Working Group 2000a) <strong>and</strong> Protective Mechanisms for Cultural Heritage – Lower North East Region (Cultural Heritage<br />

Working Group, 2000b). Ongoing review <strong>of</strong> PWG statewide guidelines is also consistent with the principles contained in the abovementioned<br />

reports.<br />

Forests NSW has completed policies for Aboriginal <strong>and</strong> non-Aboriginal cultural heritage <strong>and</strong> they are included in the ESFM Plans.<br />

They state that: ‘Forests NSW will protect <strong>and</strong> manage aboriginal <strong>and</strong> non aboriginal cultural heritage values on State forests in<br />

cooperation with the community’. The ESFM Plans are located at: www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/forests/management/esfm<br />

Forests NSW state-wide Aboriginal Cultural Heritage management policy has been incorporated into Operational Guidelines for<br />

Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management Policy <strong>and</strong> guidelines for due diligence <strong>and</strong> documentation <strong>of</strong> minimum st<strong>and</strong>ards to assess<br />

impacts, locate <strong>and</strong> manage Aboriginal sites <strong>and</strong> places; <strong>and</strong> processes to address issues relevant to Aboriginal people was prepared<br />

by Forests NSW in consultation with DPI Aboriginal Liaison <strong>and</strong> Cultural Heritage Unit during March 2006 <strong>and</strong> approved 9 May 2006,<br />

(Unpublished) Forests NSW, Sydney.<br />

Cultural heritage performance <strong>and</strong> achievements are outlined in DECC’s annual report. More detailed performance indicators for<br />

cultural heritage are included in State <strong>of</strong> the Parks reporting. Forests NSW reports on cultural heritage performance <strong>and</strong> indicators<br />

within its SEEing <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2007</strong>– <strong>2008</strong>. Forests NSW, Pennant Hills NSW. Forests NSW <strong>and</strong> DECC also contribute significant<br />

information to this report each year, which includes cultural heritage indicators.<br />
