SFNSW field staff <strong>and</strong> contractors must receive<br />

appropriate competency-based training.<br />

In Eden, establish timber industry training <strong>and</strong><br />

accreditation program to assist workers in developing<br />

recognised competencies in soil <strong>and</strong> water, flora <strong>and</strong><br />

fauna, indigenous <strong>and</strong> non-indigenous cultural<br />

heritage, log grading <strong>and</strong> log merch<strong>and</strong>ising<br />

requirements.<br />

Field staff <strong>and</strong> contractors <strong>of</strong> SFNSW must continue<br />

to receive appropriate competency-based training,<br />

including training in biodiversity management, soil<br />

<strong>and</strong> water management, log grading, silviculture,<br />

harvest planning <strong>and</strong> cultural heritage.<br />

NPWS field staff <strong>and</strong> contractors must receive<br />

appropriate competency-based training.<br />

All NPWS staff located in the Southern Directorate be<br />

provided with adequate cultural awareness training to<br />

improve customer relations with Aboriginal<br />

communities.<br />

Employ a range <strong>of</strong> initiatives to facilitate employment,<br />

subject to funding.<br />

Forests NSW staff <strong>and</strong> contractors are continuing to receive appropriate competency-based training; the records <strong>of</strong> such training are<br />

maintained on the corporate Complete Human Resource Information System (CHRIS) database. Records <strong>of</strong> contractor competencies<br />

are maintained on the Forests NSW Contractors <strong>and</strong> Operators Licensing <strong>and</strong> Permits system.<br />

DECC continues to provide staff training programs. These cover natural <strong>and</strong> cultural heritage management (including Aboriginal) <strong>and</strong><br />

operational, technical <strong>and</strong> safety matters. Programs range from technical training related to occupational health <strong>and</strong> safety<br />

requirements to statewide capacity-building initiatives targeted at particular staff classifications.<br />

Staff in DECC (Parks <strong>and</strong> Wildlife Group) Southern Branch have attended new Aboriginal cultural awareness training courses as<br />

available.<br />

As a consequence <strong>of</strong> the forest agreements, 105 positions were filled to manage the additions to the DECC estate in the UNE <strong>and</strong><br />

LNE. In 2005–2006, an additional 21 positions were created within DECC to manage the estate in UNE <strong>and</strong> LNE. Employment in<br />
