Private Native Forests<br />

As at 30 June <strong>2008</strong>, DECC had issued 418 private native forestry property vegetation plans covered<br />

approximately 115 000 ha. DECC continues to work with l<strong>and</strong>owners <strong>and</strong> industry to ensure that they<br />

are aware <strong>of</strong> the new regulatory arrangements <strong>and</strong> the Native Forestry Code <strong>of</strong> Practice.<br />

280 144 m 3 <strong>of</strong> quota sawlogs (or 317 444 m 3 including poles <strong>and</strong> girders) were harvested from Forests<br />

NSW native forest <strong>and</strong> hardwood plantations across all regions. Regional volumes did not exceed those<br />

permissible under the terms <strong>of</strong> the NSW forest agreements <strong>and</strong> IFOAs.<br />

Quota sawlogs defined<br />

In reports before 2006–<strong>2007</strong>, Forests NSW reported ‘quota sawlogs’ as Veneer Logs <strong>and</strong> High Quality<br />

Large Sawlogs only. High Quality Large logs are defined in the UNE, LNE <strong>and</strong> Southern IFOAs as<br />

having a diameter under bark <strong>of</strong> at least 40 cm. In Eden the definition <strong>of</strong> High Quality Large logs is<br />
