As noted in previous annual reports, high conservation value old growth forest (HCVOG) is not<br />

reported because <strong>of</strong> Government decisions in 2002 to require the same level <strong>of</strong> protection for both<br />

HCVOG <strong>and</strong> COG. As a result <strong>of</strong> this decision these categories are reported in combination rather than<br />

individually (Table 2-1A).<br />

There were increases in the area <strong>of</strong> forest ecosystems by growth stage distribution within the reserve<br />

system in Southern region during <strong>2007</strong>–<strong>2008</strong> as a result <strong>of</strong> the gazettal <strong>of</strong> new l<strong>and</strong> into the reserve<br />

system (Table 2-1C).<br />

For the Southern CRA region, <strong>of</strong> the 185 forest ecosystems listed, there was an increase <strong>of</strong> 184 ha in<br />

the extent <strong>of</strong> 25 forest ecosystems, therefore increasing the percentage <strong>of</strong> target achieved in the<br />

reservation <strong>of</strong> these forest ecosystems. In addition, for 18 forest ecosystems there was an increase in<br />

the percentage <strong>of</strong> c<strong>and</strong>idate old growth on PWG l<strong>and</strong>s.<br />
