Conclusions
People with multiple identities may suffer from social isolation, which may generate
additional challenges, but may also eventually give rise to the creation of ‘multiple
ground’ communities <strong>and</strong> NGOs.
<strong>Discrimination</strong> <strong>and</strong> exclusion are experienced in different ways by disabled, elderly <strong>and</strong>
ethnic/religious minority LGBT persons. Ethnic minorities risk discrimination on grounds
of sexual orientation or gender identity within their ethnic community <strong>and</strong> discrimination
on grounds of race or ethnic background in the LGBT community. Disabled LGBT
persons experience 'asexualisation' by, among others, caretakers <strong>and</strong> members of the
LGBT community itself. Furthermore, inaccessible LGBT venues, bars <strong>and</strong> meeting
places make it difficult for disabled LGBT persons to participate in the life of the LGBT
community.
Some LGBT persons in care facilities face social isolation <strong>and</strong> stereotyping from
personnel <strong>and</strong> other residents.
