On the questi<strong>on</strong> of child adopti<strong>on</strong> the Eurobarometer found that across the EU <strong>on</strong>ly an<br />

average of 31 per cent of resp<strong>on</strong>dents agreed:<br />

'The propositi<strong>on</strong> that homosexual couples should be authorised to adopt children<br />

receives extremely different levels of agreement from <strong>on</strong>e country to another: it ranges<br />

from 7% in Pol<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> Malta to 69% in the Netherl<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g>s. Sweden is the <strong>on</strong>ly other<br />

country where (just) more than half supports the view that ‘the adopti<strong>on</strong> of children<br />

should be authorised for homosexual couples throughout Europe’.' 36<br />
