It includes product information, economic statistics, and industryspecific<br />

news and research, focusing on design, au<strong>to</strong>mation and control,<br />

manufacturing processes, plant operations, and supply chain. The site<br />

draws from 23 magazines with a subscriber base of 2.35 million.<br />

A venture of Winstar Communications, Office.com targets small and<br />

midsized businesses, offering them original content and selected thirdparty<br />

information for 150 industries, community areas, independent<br />

reviews, assessment <strong>to</strong>ols, and one-click purchasing. In 2000, Office.com<br />

acquired Individual.com, a popular cus<strong>to</strong>mized news service.<br />

Oracle’s aggressive move in<strong>to</strong> e-everything is exemplified by Oracle<br />

Exchange, launched in mid-1999 as a hosted business-<strong>to</strong>-business trading<br />

network. Oracle first created Au<strong>to</strong>-Xchange for Ford, the world’s<br />

first au<strong>to</strong>motive online supply-chain network and the largest business<strong>to</strong>-business<br />

electronic network, so that the au<strong>to</strong>motive giant could move<br />

its procurement operations <strong>to</strong> the <strong>Internet</strong>. Leveraging that experience,<br />

the database company then created Oracle Exchange, which offers “open<br />

e-business marketplaces that enable <strong>Internet</strong> supply chain networks <strong>to</strong><br />

dramatically increase purchasing and operating efficiencies.”<br />

PeopleSoft Marketplace (www.peoplesoftmarketplace.com)<br />

PeopleSoft got in<strong>to</strong> the marketplace business in 2000 with this b-<strong>to</strong>-b<br />

trading exchange where cus<strong>to</strong>mers, suppliers, and employees can collaborate<br />

and do business over the <strong>Internet</strong>. PeopleSoft Marketplace<br />

brings <strong>to</strong>gether select trading partners and suppliers, and offers<br />
