NMTEC 232<br />

Clinical Education III • 10 CR<br />

Third in a four-course sequence of supervised clinical<br />

instruction in nuclear medicine technology.<br />

Topics including imaging, patient care,<br />

radiopharmacy, camera quality control, and computer<br />

analysis. Students are expected to gain proficiency<br />

according to defined objectives. Prerequisite:<br />

Acceptance into program.<br />

NMTEC 233<br />

Clinical Education IV • 14 CR<br />

Fourth in a four-course sequence of supervised<br />

clinical instruction in nuclear medicine technology.<br />

Topics including imaging, patient care,<br />

radiopharmacy, camera quality control, and computer<br />

analysis. Students are expected to gain proficiency<br />

according to defined objectives. Prerequisite:<br />

Acceptance into program.<br />

NMTEC 240<br />

Radiation Safety • 1 CR<br />

Covers principles and practices for radiation safety.<br />

Topics include calculation of doses absorbed from<br />

procedures, personnel monitoring, handling and<br />

disposal of radioactive materials, and licensing of<br />

a nuclear medicine department. Prerequisite: Acceptance<br />

into program or permission of instructor.<br />

NMTEC 241<br />

Radiation Biology • 1 CR<br />

Discusses the potentially harmful effects of radiation<br />

on humans. Topics include the basic chemistry<br />

of radiation interactions in living cells, the effects<br />

of extensive radiation exposure, and the potential<br />

long-term effects of accumulated radiation<br />

damage. Prerequisite: Acceptance into program or<br />

permission of instructor.<br />

NMTEC 260<br />

Clinical Nuclear Medicine I • 1 CR<br />

Presents nuclear medicine from the technologist’s<br />

standpoint, emphasizing the technical aspects and<br />

pitfalls of nuclear medicine procedures. NMTEC<br />

260 lectures are coordinated with NMTEC 200. Prerequisite:<br />

Acceptance into program.<br />

NMTEC 261<br />

Clinical Nuclear Medicine II • 1 CR<br />

Presents nuclear medicine from the physician’s<br />

standpoint, emphasizing the diagnosis of disease<br />

and ways in which the technologist can assist the<br />

physician making a correct diagnosis. Prerequisite:<br />

Acceptance into program.<br />

NMTEC 275<br />

Board Preparation • 1 CR<br />

Prepares students for the NMTCB exam by reviewing<br />

all aspects of nuclear medicine technology and<br />

giving practice tests. Students focus on practical<br />

application of the basic science knowledge gained<br />

throughout the program. Students also complete a<br />

capstone project. Prerequisite: Acceptance into program<br />

or permission of instructor.<br />

NURS 100X<br />

Nursing I: Fundamentals • 7 CR<br />

Provides the framework for nursing theory. Students<br />

develop cognitive, psychomotor, assessment, and<br />

communicative skills to meet the biophysiological,<br />

psychosocial needs of the client. Students discuss<br />

relevant concepts in pharmacology and basic human<br />

needs and gain clinical experiences in extended-care<br />

facilities. Course consists of two components:<br />

100X and 100Z. Prerequisite: Acceptance into<br />

program and BIOL 260 and 261.<br />

NURS 100Z<br />

Nursing I: Lab • 5 CR<br />

Students develop cognitive, psychomotor, assessment,<br />

and communicative skills to meet the<br />

biophysiological, psychosocial needs to the client.<br />

Students discuss relevant concepts in pharmacology<br />

and basic human needs and gain clinical experiences<br />

in extended-care facilities. Course consists of<br />

two components: 100X and 100Z. Prerequisite: Acceptance<br />

into program and BIOL 260 and 261.<br />

Nursing II: Medical/Surgical • 6 CR<br />

The first of three medical/surgical courses focusing<br />

on acute and chronic health dysfunctions in the<br />

adult client. Students gain clinical experience in<br />

acute-care settings. Course consists of two components:<br />

101X and 101Z. Prerequisite: NURS 100X<br />

and 100Z.<br />

NURS 101Z<br />

Nursing II: Lab • 6 CR<br />

Clinical component for NURS 101X. Students gain<br />

experience in health agencies correlating with and<br />

implementing nursing theory. Prerequisite: NURS<br />

100X and 100Z.<br />

NURS 102X<br />

Nursing III: Medical/Surgical • 5 CR<br />

child focusing on adaptation and health maintenance.<br />

Prerequisite: NURS 102X and 102Z, BIOL<br />

250, and PSYCH 204.<br />

Maternal/Child Nursing Lab • 5 CR<br />

Includes community-based clinical observation as<br />

well as in-hospital experience in labor/delivery,<br />

mother/baby care, and the care of ill children. Prerequisite:<br />

NURS 102X and 102Z, BIOL 250, and<br />

PSYCH 204.<br />

NURS 221X<br />

Psychiatric Nursing • 6 CR<br />

Focuses on the nurse’s therapeutic role in maintaining<br />

and enhancing mental health. Students<br />

learn to meet the needs of clients with challenged<br />

emotional and/or cognitive abilities that impair<br />

their day-to-day functioning. Prerequisite: NURS<br />

102X and 102Z, BIOL 250, and PSYCH 204.<br />

NURS 221Z<br />

Psychiatric Nursing Lab • 5 CR<br />

Provides experience in acute inpatient psychiatric<br />

facilities and various community-based mental<br />

health programs. Students practice the nursing process<br />

in providing client-centered care. Prerequisite:<br />

NURS 102X and 102Z, BIOL 250, and PSYCH 204.
