Tutoring Program<br />

The Tutoring Program offers both one-on-one<br />

and group session tutoring for college credit<br />

courses. Students performing at a “C” grade level<br />

or below may be eligible for two hours per week of<br />

individual tutoring when tutors are available.<br />

Group sessions may be attended, when available,<br />

by students performing at any grade level. The<br />

Tutorial Center is located in room C162.<br />

Veterans’ Administration<br />

Programs<br />

The Veterans Affairs Office located in B231D<br />

will assist veterans, reservists, dependents, and VA<br />

chapter 31 students with eligibility questions as<br />

well as Southeast Asian and Persian Gulf waivers.<br />

Women’s Center/<br />

Student Access Center<br />

BCC’s Women’s Center/Student Access Center<br />

provides a variety of services for students and<br />

members of the community, both men and<br />

women. The Center provides one-on-one coaching<br />

assistance, resource information and referral,<br />

scholarship information and group advising, and<br />

career transition and life planning classes and<br />

workshops. Please visit our Center on the second<br />

floor of the Student Services Building, Main Campus,<br />

Worker Retraining<br />

Worker Retraining provides tuition assistance<br />

for qualifying students. Funding is usually for one<br />

or two quarters and can cover credited, occupational<br />

classes only. Worker Retraining students will<br />

receive priority registration, educational planning,<br />

and assistance in locating other funding resources<br />

while pursuing a certificate or degree program.<br />

You may be eligible for Worker Retraining if:<br />

~ You are collecting Unemployment Insurance<br />

(UI);<br />

~ You have exhausted your UI within the past 24<br />

months;<br />

~ You are a displaced homemaker;<br />

~ You were self-employed in a declining field;<br />

~ You have received a lay-off letter.<br />

WorkFirst<br />

Support Services<br />

Workfirst provides free training for parents who<br />

meet income-requirements. Priority is given to TANF<br />

(Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) recipients.<br />

Computer Basics and Software Fundamentals—11week<br />

computer course for beginner computer users. Job<br />

placement assistance is offered at completion of class.<br />

Computer Software Certification—11-week computer<br />

course for those with computer experience. Prepares<br />

students for the M.O.U.S. (Microsoft Office User<br />

Specialist) Certificate. Job placement assistance is offered<br />

at completion of class.<br />

English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL)—11-week English-as-a-Second-Language<br />

course at beginner, intermediate,<br />

and advanced levels. Curriculum includes<br />

customer-service training and a computer<br />

component. Job placement assistance is offered at<br />

completion of class.<br />

WorkFirst Financial Aid—Offers free books and tuition<br />

in approved occupational programs. Must be<br />

working to qualify.<br />
