Human Anatomy & Physiology • 6 CR<br />

Continues the study of tissues, organs, and systems<br />

of the human body. Both BIOL 260 and 261 are<br />

needed for a complete study of the anatomy and<br />

physiology of all human systems. Format includes<br />

laboratory work. Prerequisite: BIOL 260 at BCC<br />

with a C or better; or entry code.<br />

Introductory Plant Biology • 6 CR<br />

Presents basic concepts of plant biology for the<br />

non-major, focusing on the plant characteristics,<br />

unity and diversity, growth, and reproduction. Students<br />

discuss current ideas in agriculture, horticulture,<br />

medicine, biotechnology, ecology, conservation,<br />

and environmental issues. Laboratory work<br />

includes greenhouse and field studies.<br />

Plant Identification &<br />

Classification • 6 CR<br />

Covers the nomenclature, classification, field<br />

study, and laboratory identification of common<br />

plant families, with emphasis on the conspicuous<br />

flora of Western and Central Washington. Format<br />

includes fieldwork, including two full-day trips to<br />

Central Washington.<br />

Introduction to Mycology • 6 CR<br />

Surveys the study of fungi, emphasizing interrelationships<br />

with the plant and animal kingdoms.<br />

Topics include classification and naming, reproduction,<br />

fungi as pathogens of plants, mycotoxins,<br />

medicinal and/or shamanistic uses, edible mushrooms,<br />

fungal diseases, plant/fungus symbiotic relationships,<br />

and pest management.<br />

Business Law—Legal Foundations • 5 CR<br />

Examines legal institutions and processes. Students<br />

examine law as a system of social thought and<br />

behavior and a framework for resolving rival<br />

the interaction of law and business.<br />

Statistical Analysis • 5 CR<br />

Surveys techniques used in decision-making and<br />

research. Topics include descriptive and inferential<br />

statistics, probability, central tendency, variability,<br />

normal and t-distributions, hypothesis testing, and<br />

regression. Material has applications in business,<br />

health care, etc. Prerequisite: MATH 156 with a Cor<br />

better; or entry code.<br />

Develops basic skills in keyboarding (touch-typing)<br />

Increases students’ keyboarding speed and accuracy.<br />

Prerequisite: Previous keyboarding and computer<br />

experience.<br />

Business Communications • 5 CR<br />

Develops effective business communication skills.<br />

Students learn communication problem solving,<br />

appropriate communication formats, and different<br />

methods of presenting content.<br />

BTS 110<br />

Electronic Communications • 5 CR<br />

Introduces the concepts of interpersonal communication<br />

using electronic tools. Students learn to produce<br />

effective written communication, use the public<br />

web services, and use appropriate netiquette<br />

and behavior. Prerequisite: BTS 109, 161, and 172.<br />

Presentation Applications:<br />

Beginning • 1 CR<br />

Introduces students to the beginning features of<br />

electronic presentations using the latest version of<br />

PowerPoint. Topics include creating basic slide presentations,<br />

selecting template design, formatting<br />

presentations, using clip art, customizing presentations,<br />

viewing/editing slide shows, and printing<br />

options. Prerequisite: Previous computer experience<br />

or permission of instructor.<br />

Introduces students to the intermediate features of<br />

electronic presentations using the latest version of<br />

PowerPoint. Topics include links, animation,<br />

sound, transitions, builds, annotations, speakers<br />

notes, file properties, and slide show presentation.<br />

Advanced • 1 CR<br />

Introduces students to the advanced features of<br />

electronic presentations using the latest version of<br />

PowerPoint. Topics include special effects, complex<br />

animation effects, narration, collaboration features,<br />

and WEB presentations. Recommended Prerequisite:<br />

BTS 142.<br />

BTS 144<br />

Personal Information Manager • 3 CR<br />

Course features the concepts, terminology, and<br />

techniques involved in utilizing a popular messaging<br />

and personal information management program,<br />

specifically Microsoft Outlook. Tools and<br />

commands are utilized to e-mail, schedule appointments<br />

and meetings, create and maintain<br />

contact lists, create task lists, maintain journals for<br />

recording and tracking activities, and create notes<br />

and reminders. Recommended: Previous computer<br />

experience.<br />

Internet Basics • 1 CR<br />

Introduction to the basics of the Internet and email<br />

applications. Prerequisite: Previous computer<br />

experience or permission of instructor.<br />

BTS 146<br />

10-Key • 1 CR<br />

Introduction to the computer ten-key keypad and<br />

the functions of the desktop calculator. Prerequisite:<br />

Previous computer experience or permission of<br />

instructor.<br />

Fundamentals • 5 CR<br />

Course Descriptions<br />

Introduces use of the personal computer while<br />

working in a Windows environment. Students become<br />

familiar with basic computer hardware components<br />

and learn to use word-processing, spreadsheet,<br />

charting, and database software.<br />
