Introduces ethical problems relating to medical<br />

practice and biological research. Students discuss<br />

ethical issues in euthanasia, abortion, animal experimentation,<br />

genetic engineering, and doctorpatient<br />

medical and research fields, but applicable to<br />

fields. Students should take this course during<br />

the first quarter or as soon as is practical.<br />

Aerobic Dance • 1 CR<br />

Improves muscle tone, flexibility, and endurance<br />

through exercising to music. Students practice relaxation<br />

techniques, isometric exercises and exercises<br />

for figure control.<br />

PE 103**<br />

Co-Ed Aerobics • V1-2 CR<br />

Provides cardiovascular improvement, changes metabolism,<br />

and burns body fat. Students exercise to music<br />

during the entire class period. A low-impact option<br />

is also available to promote cardiovascular benefit, fat<br />

burning, and toning without the stress of jumping.<br />

Introduces basic skills and techniques of golf. Students<br />

practice grip, stance, swing, use of various<br />

clubs, rules, scoring, and the etiquette of the game.<br />

Introduces basic skills and techniques of basketball.<br />

Students practice shooting, passing, dribbling,<br />

footwork, rebounding, defense, and combining<br />

individual offensive and defensive techniques<br />

Introduces basic skills and techniques of tennis.<br />

Students practice serves, forehand drive, backhand<br />

pickleball. Students learn grip, strokes, footwork,<br />

Develops individual fitness levels in aerobic capacity,<br />

major muscle strength and endurance, flexibility,<br />

major muscle strength and endurance, flexibility,<br />

Develops individual fitness levels in aerobic capacity,<br />

major muscle strength and endurance, flexibility,<br />

Promotes appreciation for cardiovascular fitness<br />

through outdoor walking, jogging, hiking, and<br />

aerobic games. Students of varying abilities follow<br />

a prescribed exercise program based on predetermined<br />

goals and assessments. Regular participation,<br />

safety, and maintaining a training log are<br />

emphasized.<br />

Introduces basic skills and techniques of volleyball.<br />

Students learn serving, setting up, and spiking the<br />

ball; strategy of play in front and backcourts and<br />

at nets; and rules and scoring.<br />

Introduces basic skills and techniques of racquetball.<br />

Students practice fundamental elements,<br />

learn rules of play, and develop the ability to enjoy<br />

game situations.<br />

Introduces Okinawan Goju-Ryu, emphasizing the<br />

philosophy as well as the skills and etiquette of<br />

karate. Students focus on developing self-reliance<br />

and self-confidence.<br />

Continues PE 120, developing intermediate skills<br />

and techniques of Okinawan Goju-Ryu karate. Students<br />

learn defensive and offensive methods used<br />

in self-defense. Prerequisite: PE 120 or permission<br />

Introduces basic skills and techniques of badminton.<br />

Students learn rules and strategies and practice<br />

Topics include stringing the bow, handling bow and<br />

and dribbling. Flag football: stances, ball carrying,<br />
