Auditions are held each year for Jazz Explosion<br />

and Chamber Choir. The commitment is intended<br />

for the full year. Every quarter there are performance<br />

opportunities for all student groups.<br />

Instrumental Music Productions<br />

Instrumental Music Productions (IMP) is allied<br />

with the course offering Music 106A/206A reservists,<br />

BCC Jazz Band, and Music 106B, BCC Jazz<br />

Workshop. IMP is involved in concerts (on- and offcampus),<br />

tours, festivals, and recordings. Students<br />

audition for membership in the award-winning<br />

Jazz Band during Fall Quarter, making a commitment<br />

for the entire year. Other musicians can enroll<br />

in the Jazz Workshop. Auditions may be held<br />

for any available chairs during the rest of the year.<br />

The IMP experience includes combos gathered<br />

from the Jazz Band instrumentation. These combos<br />

may also tour and perform with the Jazz Band.<br />

CWMEA Music Education Club<br />

BCC’s collegiate chapter of the Washington<br />

Music Educators’ Association is open to all students<br />

interested in pursuing Music Education as a profession.<br />

Though most members are music majors, any<br />

interested student may join. Contact the faculty<br />

advisor at (425) 564-2686.<br />

Planetarium<br />

The Geer Planetarium is one of two planetariums<br />

in Western Washington. It is available to BCC<br />

students, visiting school groups and, on a quarterly<br />

basis, public groups. The planetarium projector<br />

replicates the positions of the sun, moon, planets,<br />

and stars onto the domed ceiling as they would<br />

actually appear in the night sky.<br />

Publications<br />

The Student Handbook<br />

The Student Handbook, produced by the Student<br />

Programs Office, gives information on campus<br />

services, programs, departments, college policies,<br />

student code, etc. Handbooks are free and are<br />

available at the Campus Information Center<br />

(C106), the Student Programs Office (C212), the<br />

Student Services Center, the student union kiosks,<br />

and online at the Student Programs website<br />

Literary and Arts Annual: Arnazella<br />

Arnazella, BCC’s student-produced literary and<br />

arts publication, features essays, short stories, poetry,<br />

and art from artists and writers across the<br />

Northwest. Students may earn up to 15 elective<br />

credits for the academic year while they gain experience<br />

in editing and publishing.<br />

Student Newspaper: The Jibsheet<br />

BCC’s student newspaper, “The Jibsheet,” welcomes<br />

students, staff, and faculty who have news,<br />

editing, and advertising experience, as well as<br />

those who have curiosity but no experience. Enrollment<br />

in journalism courses is not required to participate<br />

as a Jibsheet staff member. The newspaper<br />

is entirely student-run with occasional help from a<br />

faculty advisor. Students interested in joining the<br />

newspaper staff should contact advisor James<br />

Radio Station KBCS FM 91.3<br />

KBCS, 91.3FM, is an 8000-watt, listener-supported,<br />

non-commercial radio station licensed to<br />

<strong>Bellevue</strong> Community <strong>College</strong>. KBCS airs folk, jazz,<br />

blues, and world music along with a wide variety<br />

of news and cultural affairs programming. More<br />

Sports Programs<br />

Intercollegiate Athletics<br />

Anyone attending BCC is welcome to try out for<br />

BCC intercollegiate athletic teams. Registered students<br />

attend games free of charge. Equity in athletics<br />

data are available for public inspection in the<br />

Athletics Office, G100. BCC belongs to the<br />

NWAACC (Northwest Athletic Association of Community<br />

<strong>College</strong>s).<br />

Intramurals and Sports Clubs<br />

Aerobics, basketball, pickleball, and volleyball,<br />

and are just a few of the midday activities offered<br />

through BCC intramurals during Fall, Winter, and<br />

Spring Quarters. Planned and implemented by students,<br />

staff, and faculty, intramurals are a great<br />

way to keep in shape and meet people.<br />

Student Clubs<br />

Any group of five currently enrolled BCC students<br />

may form a student club and become eligible<br />

for funding through the ASBCC student government.<br />

Twenty to 25 clubs per year enrich the campus<br />

with diverse events and services. Students who<br />

wish to join current clubs or form new clubs should<br />

contact the Student Programs Office at (425) 564-<br />

6150 for more information. A list of current and<br />

past student clubs/organizations is available on<br />

Student Government: ASBCC<br />

General elections are held every Spring Quarter<br />

to elect the board of students who represent the<br />

ASBCC—Associated Students of <strong>Bellevue</strong> Community<br />

<strong>College</strong> (all registered students automatically<br />

become members of ASBCC). Participation on the<br />

board offers students experience in campus-wide<br />

policy development, decision-making, and event<br />

coordination. ASBCC also helps organize and fund<br />

many campus clubs and activities. To learn more<br />
