surveys, basel<strong>in</strong>e data to <strong>in</strong>form and create <strong>in</strong>sights <strong>in</strong>to the important niche w<strong>in</strong>e tourism market. My <strong>in</strong>volvement <strong>in</strong> w<strong>in</strong>e tourism<br />
research, at a very early stage <strong>in</strong> the development <strong>of</strong> this area, is significant as it reflects some <strong>of</strong> the first published work<br />
exam<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g premium Australian w<strong>in</strong>e regions. In Mitchell and Hall’s paper exam<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g the state <strong>of</strong> play <strong>of</strong> current w<strong>in</strong>e tourism<br />
research, reference is made to the work presented here as an <strong>in</strong>tegral contribution to ‘the pioneer<strong>in</strong>g research projects <strong>in</strong> w<strong>in</strong>e<br />
tourism’ (Mitchell and Hall, 2006, p.307) and the subsequent body <strong>of</strong> literature that has emerged.
