P-all consultants Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V. PESIA Weg naar Zee 2D Seismic 2012 Annex 2: Water quality and fish assessment report by the ADEK University Lab. Desktop study seismic survey Staatolie 1. Water quality Water quality assessment was performed at two pre-selected localities: Canal Brantimaka weg (N0553132, W05511265), Canal Staatsolie pomp at Okrodam (N0552200, W0551511). Each site was sampled one time at the start of the long dry season. At each site measurements were conducted with Hach (dissolved oxygen and turbidity) and Oakton (pH and salinity) meters; transparency was being measured with a secchi disk. Furthermore, samples were taken for color analysis, which were analyzed with a spectrophotometer. Each site was also described briefly and GPS points taken. Canal Brantimakaweg The assessed canal at the Brantimaka weg is connected with the Atlantic Ocean through a sluice and serves as irrigation canal for the surrounded agriculture land. The canal is man-made, has a width of 10-15 meter, a slow current and is vegetated (grasses, dagoeblad (Ipomoea reptans), blaasjeskruid (Ulticularia), duckweed (Lemna), water hyacinth (Eichhornia). Water is near pH neutral (6.7), brackish to salt water (salinity: 1.54, 2.78 ppt) and very low oxygen content at the time of sampling (0.09 mg/L). Water is slightly turbid (11 NTU) and has a low transparency (55 cm). Color water: 267, 283 units Pt-Co APHA. Canal Staatsolie pomp at Okrodam This man made canal has a width of 8-10 meter and is connected to a surrounding swamp area. A slow current was observed and almost no aquatic vegetation in the canal segment sampled. Water is pH neutral (7.24), well oxygenated (4.66 mg/L) and is slightly brackish (salinity: 146 ppm). Water is also slightly turbid (14.2 NTU) and has low transparency (45cm). Color water: 282 units Pt-Co APHA. One bordering swamp was assessed: pH neutral (6.6), low oxygen (0.44 mg/L), low turbidity (5.9 NTU) and slightly brackish (salinity: 114 ppm). Color water: 217 units Pt-Co APHA. 2. Fish assessment Fish was assessed at Canal Brantimaka weg (N0553132, W05511265) and Canal Staatsolie pomp at Okrodam (N0552200, W0551511). Low depths areas in the canals were seined for an hour, where after gillnets were set overnight. Below the list with fish species found at the assessed locations.
