MONITORING AND INSPECTION PLAN Monitoring and inspection programs that are already in place Staatsolie are: • inspection of fuel spills or leakages from containers and tanks • monitoring or inspection of surface water for oil spills and leakages • inspection and monitoring of solid waste management No additional monitoring and inspection requirements have been identified. However, it is recommended that the inspection of surface water should include suspended solids. Any increase in suspended can easily be traced by visual inspection. In addition to these existing programs, fire patrols during dry periods have been proposed as prevention and/or mitigation measure. 96

DECOMMISSIONING PLAN Decommissioning should comprise the following activities: • abandonment of trails • removal of all equipment and parts of it • removal of all waste • clean-up of any soil and water pollution • rehabilitation of disturbed land • restoration of any damaged drainage structures • leveling and/or breaching of all constructed dams, if any (in fact not everywhere recognizable as such, so in general: elevated land along trails) • in communication with the dedicated authorities: blocking of all access routes over land and water in order to prevent access to the project area 97
