with the AN /CRD -6.
Comparator tests indicate that it
functions on all values of D/F
voltages at a signal -to -noise ratio
of 1 : 2 or better as measured at
the receiver output. Insertion loss
of the comparator does not exceed
1 db at any point in the frequency
range. Over the entire range of
input signal levels, the comparator
has a 6 db min. selective sensitivity.
Response time for bearing
changes of 180 degrees varies from
1 to 3 secs. depending upon the
degree of indicator.
Conclusion
The primary differences between
the facility under discussion and
conventional systems is the employment
of space and height diversity
techniques and the design of the
individual antennas. It is concluded
that the application of diversity
techniques employed in the AN /-
CRD-6 results in a decided improvement
over single conventional D/F
antenna systems in terms of bearing
reliability and accuracy. Considerable
thought is being given
to antenna beam shaping techniques
that may provide a simpler
solution in the future.
