It is obvious that circuit reliability
is increased when allowances
are made for the normal change in
tube characteristics with life.
General Considerations
In the interpretation of the life
test data presented in this article,
the equipment designer must consider
the following factors:
1. The data represent only one
manufacturer's product at one particular
time. Such data will, of
course, show variations within
MIL -E -1 specifications from batch
to batch.
2. The percentage of change indicated
for the particular tubes
covered in this article is better than
that required by the MIL -E-1 specification.
This specification gives no
limits for the change in individual
tubes, but specifies only a limit on
average change for the sample during
500 -hr. operation.
3. Tubes were operated on life
test at maximum -rated dissipation
with a bulb temperature of 165 °C.
4. Although the conditions for
life test included the use of cathode
bias, tube characteristics were measured
with fixed bias. The percentage
of change for individual
tubes would be considerably reduced
if cathode bias were used during
these measurements.
