Ph.D. PROGRAMME IN CHEMISTRY<br />

The Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology holds a four-year Ph.D. degree programme for graduates<br />

of chemical, physical and biological departments of universities, for graduates of medical universities<br />

and to engineers in chemical technology and material science.<br />

The main areas of the programme are:<br />

• radiation chemistry and biochemistry,<br />

• chemistry of radioelements,<br />

• isotopic effects,<br />

• radiopharmaceutical chemistry,<br />

• analytical methods,<br />

• chemistry of radicals,<br />

• application of nuclear methods in chemical and environmental research, material science and protection<br />

of historical heritage.<br />

The candidates accepted for the mentioned programme can be employed in the Institute. The candidates<br />

can apply for a doctorial scholarship. The INCT offers accommodation in 10 rooms in the<br />

guesthouse for Ph.D. students not living in Warsaw.<br />

During the four-year Ph.D. programme the students participate in lectures given by senior staff from<br />

the INCT, Warsaw University and the Polish Academy of Sciences. In the second year, the Ph.D. students<br />

have teaching practice in the Chemistry Department of Warsaw University. Each year the Ph.D. students<br />

are obliged to deliver a lecture on topic of his/her dissertation at a seminar. The final requirements for the<br />

Ph.D. programme graduates, consistent with the regulation of the Ministry of Education and Science,<br />

are:<br />

• submission of a formal dissertation, summarizing original research contributions suitable for publication;<br />

• final examination and public defense of the dissertation thesis.<br />

In <strong>2005</strong>, the following lecture series were organized:<br />

• “Radiobiology” – Assoc. Prof. Andrzej Wójcik, Ph.D., D.Sc. (Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and<br />

Technology);<br />

• “Chemometrics” – Prof. Piotr Urbański, Ph.D., D.Sc. (Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology);<br />

• “Nuclear chemistry” – Assoc. Prof. Aleksander Bilewicz, Ph.D., D.Sc. (Institute of Nuclear Chemistry<br />

and Technology);<br />

• “Coordination chemistry” – Prof. Jerzy Narbutt, Ph.D., D.Sc. (Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and<br />

Technology).<br />

The qualification interview for the Ph.D. programme takes place in the mid of October. Detailed<br />
