The dynamics of factor accumulation are consistent with the technological hypothesis of the<br />

Argentine boom until World War I. Agricultural l<strong>and</strong> per capita grew at 15% annually in the<br />

1880s, close to 5% both in the 1890s <strong>and</strong> the 1900s, <strong>and</strong> fluctuated around the 1910 level<br />

thereafter. (Figure 12). The increase in agricultural l<strong>and</strong> until around World War I <strong>and</strong><br />

stagnation thereafter was matched by the evolution of railway mileage, though railway miles<br />

per capita actually declined during the 1920s.<br />
