Site Investigation (1993)<br />

Following a US EPA Removal Action, the Ohio EPA per<strong>for</strong>med a post removal Site<br />

Inspection Investigation in September 1993. It was determined that the site did not<br />

pose a significant threat to human health and the environment . There<strong>for</strong>e, no further<br />

action was recommended.<br />

Remediation (1991-1992)<br />

The <strong>for</strong>mer Griswold site was the subject of a US EPA removal action. Numerous<br />

drums of paint waste, etc. and piles of aluminum smelting (i.e. dross) were removed<br />

<strong>for</strong> appropriate disposal.<br />

Holland Village Dump (Northwest Corner of Front Street and Conrail Tracks)<br />

Site History:<br />

Minimal in<strong>for</strong>mation exists with respect to the operational history of the <strong>for</strong>mer Holland<br />

Village Dump. The Dump accepted typical household/municipal refuse until 1958. It<br />

is currently covered by concrete, stone, rock, slabs, and soils that were dumped there<br />

starting in the 1980s.<br />

Site Investigation (1997)<br />

The site was investigated as part of the Ohio EPA Maumee Area of Concern Project<br />

Phase III Site Assessments in 1997. The site was designated as no further remedial<br />

action planned.<br />

International Mineral and Chemical (10401 Old State Line Road, Spencer Township)<br />

Site History:<br />

This 85 acre property is located on the corner of Old State Line Road and Eber Road.<br />

It was owned by International Mineral and Chemical (IMC) from 1946 to 1956. IMC<br />

allegedly excavated trenches and disposed of liquid waste and drums in the trenches.<br />

The waste was <strong>report</strong>edly from a division of IMC, Amino Products, located in<br />

Ross<strong>for</strong>d. Amino Products manufactured monosodium glutamate from sugar beet<br />

industry waste. Since then there have been several owners of this property. The<br />

current owner is Lucas County and it is within the Westwinds Industrial Park.<br />

Excavated trenches, 1100 feet in length, still remain on this site.<br />

Site Investigation (1992-1995)<br />

In 1992 Ohio EPA conducted interviews of residents near the IMC property. They<br />

also conducted sampling of residential wells and found several SVOCs and VOCs,<br />

including solvents and chlorinated organic compounds. Following these activities<br />

Ohio EPA sent a letter of inquiry to IMC Global, requesting specific in<strong>for</strong>mation about<br />

any disposal activities that may have occurred on this site. A response was received<br />

from both IMC Global’s legal counsel and the Mallinckrodt Group, Inc., stating they<br />

had no record of disposal on the property.<br />
